Dr. Tamara Clegg 

College of Information 

University of Maryland


Biography: Tamara Clegg is a professor in the College of Information at the University of Maryland. She also has an affiliate position in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership within the College of Education. She received her Ph.D. from Georgia Tech’s College of Computing and her B.S. in Computer Science from North Carolina State University. Tamara’s work focuses on designing technology (e.g., social media, mobile apps, e-textiles, community displays) to support life-relevant STEM learning where learners, particularly those from minoritized, resource-constrained communities, engage in STEM in the context of achieving personally relevant goals. Her most recent project is focused on designing courses and technology with and for elite collegiate athletes to support their critical data literacy development through their sport experiences. She seeks to understand ways such learning environments and technologies support STEM disposition development and critical data literacies. Tamara’s work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Studies, the Spencer Foundation, Nickelodeon and Google.





Dr. Pascal Bauer
Junior professor & Expert Sports Analytics
Data-Scientist of the German National Team Football
(2019–today) and at the NFL, NBA & MLB (2022–2024)


Biography: For almost ten years I have been providing evidence to support sports experts decision-making. With a background in mathematics and computer science and a PhD from Tübingen University, I apply machine learning methods to sports data. As a Junior professor in Sports Analytics at Saarland University I am establishing sports analytics & data literacy curricula. In 7 years of experience with the DFB and the German National Teams, I translated data-driven insights to the coaching staff for example during the World-Cup in Qatar 2022. I also worked with Zelus Analytics striving to establish the “Moneyball-approach” in the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and many more. Holding an UEFA-A-level coaching license, I have 10 years experience working as a coach in semi-professional football (soccer).
